Mongolia formally opened its borders on June 1st, according to a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday. Mongolian citizens will be able to travel to more than ten countries with open borders, including Turkey, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Greece, Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil, Egypt, and India.
According to the cabinet secretariat's press office, the government is working to issue COVID-19 vaccination certificates for those traveling abroad and is in diplomatic talks with foreign countries such as China, South Korea, Kazakhstan, the United Kingdom, and Hungary to have their immunization records approved in order to expand the number of countries Mongolian citizens are free to travel to.
Mongolia began gradually sealing its borders to all passengers, including its nationals, in late January 2020 as a strategy to prevent COVID-19 outbreaks.
Certain entry criteria for visitors entering Mongolia were already publicized, including the necessity that all passengers exhibit a negative COVID-19 test or be completely vaccinated against the coronavirus.
